Murree Expressway Closed for Traffic as Heavy Snowfall Disrupts Travel
The Murree Expressway has been closed for general traffic after heavy snowfall made road conditions unsafe, officials confirmed on Sunday.
According to the National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP), the closure is in effect from Phulgara Toll Plaza to Murree. The restriction applies to vehicles traveling toward Murree, while the N-75 highway remains open for local residents and emergency services only.
Authorities have urged tourists and commuters to avoid non-essential travel to Murree until weather conditions improve.
Murree Traffic Situation: New Year Traffic Plan Activated
With tourist numbers rising during the winter season and New Year holidays, Murree’s district administration, in coordination with traffic police, has enforced a special traffic management plan.
Under the plan:
- Leaves of traffic wardens have been canceled
- Additional traffic and police personnel have been deployed
- Traffic flow and congestion points are being closely monitored
- Officials said these measures aim to prevent traffic jams and ensure public safety amid snowfall.
Weather Alert for Murree and Galiyat Areas
The district administration has also issued a weather advisory, warning that rain and snowfall are expected to continue in Murree and surrounding Galiyat areas through early January.
Travelers have been instructed to:
- Use tire chains
- Keep fuel tanks full
- Follow official traffic instructions at all times
- Public Advisory for Tourists
Authorities stressed that public cooperation is critical during adverse weather conditions. Tourists are advised to stay updated on Murree road conditions, follow official advisories, and delay travel during heavy snowfall.
The administration reiterated its commitment to keeping Murree accessible during peak tourist seasons while prioritizing safety on snow-affected roads.
