PTA Clarifies Reports About Massive Reduction in Mobile Phone Taxes
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has officially clarified that a notification circulating on social media, claiming a massive reduction in mobile phone taxes, is false and misleading.
In its statement, the PTA confirmed that it has not issued any notification, directive, or policy update regarding a reduction in mobile phone taxes or any changes to the existing rules for mobile phone imports. The authority emphasized that the viral notification has no official authenticity and appears to be deliberately designed to misinform consumers and mobile phone importers.
The regulator further stated that no new instructions have been given to importers, retailers, or the general public concerning mobile taxation. Reports suggesting that the government has provided tax relief on mobile devices are therefore completely baseless and unverified.
PTA urged citizens to act responsibly and avoid sharing unconfirmed news. The public has been strongly advised to rely only on the PTA’s official website and verified social media channels for authentic updates and policy announcements.
