PSL Points Table
All six Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises will battle it out for a month to be crowned as champions of Pakistan’s premier T20 tournament. Islamabad United, the most successful team in the competition’s history, was the team to beat in the group stages last time out as they broke the record for most points and wins in a single edition of PSL, recording 8 victories in the group stages. The franchise will be looking to finish within the top 4 in the PSL 7 points table once again.
Lahore Qalandars, on the other hand, finished last on the PSL points table last time around and will be looking to overcome a disappointing season by finishing in the top four in PSL 7 points table. They are the only team to have finished outside the play-offs position on 5 occasions and will be determined to put on a better showing this time around.
The tournament is being played at two venues this time around. The first phase of the tournament will be held at National Stadium Karachi, while the second phase, including the play-offs and the final will be played at Gaddafi stadium Lahore. 15 of the group stage matches will be played at Karachi while the rest of the 15 matches will be played at Lahore.
The competition to finish in the top four spots in the PSL points table 2022 is going to be exciting as the six teams look to win the grand prize come 27 February.
PSL 7 Points Table Criteria
PSL is played according to a double round-robin format. Each team will go head-to-head twice with other teams in the group stage and the top four teams will qualify for the play-offs. The rules and regulations of the tournament are in accordance with the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) rules.
The points system implemented in the PSL 7 Points Table is the same as the points system in the previous seasons or in any other ICC authorized franchise T20 league around the world. The teams that have accumulated the most points after 10 matches in group stage each will be ranked accordingly. The teams that finish in top four in the PSL points table will move onto the next round. Two points are awarded for a win, one for a no result and zero for a loss. In case, the match ends in a tie within the twenty overs, the winner will be decided via super over.
In a super over, both teams will play one over and the team with the highest runs in the one over will be declared the winner and will be awarded two points.
The ranking of the teams in the group stages will be determined according to the following criteria:
- The team with the highest points at the end of the group stage will finish in the first position.
- If teams have an equal number of points, then the team with a higher net run rate will finish higher.
- If the points and the net run rate are equal, the team with the highest number of wins in the group stage will finish higher.
- If the above criteria are equal as well, then the team with fewer losses will finish higher in the table.
- If all the criteria remain equal, then the result of the head-to-head between the two teams will determine the league position.
The team which finishes at the top of the PSL points table 2022 will face the second-placed team in the qualifier, while the third-placed team will go head-to-head with the fourth-placed team in the first eliminator. The winner of the qualifier will move straight to the final, while the loser of the qualifier will play the winner of the first eliminator in the second eliminator. The winner of the second eliminator will face the winner of the qualifier in the final.
If a match is tied in the play-offs, then a super over will decide the winner of the match. In case, the super over is also tied, then the team which finished higher in the group stage will be declared as the winner.
