SUPARCO Issues Major Prediction Regarding Ramadan Moon Sighting

Pakistan will witness the birth of the Ramadan Moon on February 28, 2025; however, as SUPARCO (Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission) spokespersons stated at 5:45 PM Pakistan Standard Time on this date, visibility may be reduced significantly.

SUPARCO reported that at sunset on February 28, the moon will only be 12 hours old and have reached 5 degrees altitude, rendering its sight impossible with naked eye visibility. Furthermore, only 7 degrees separate it from its sun counterpart, making Ramadan Moon Sighting impossible with either eye.

As explained by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s spokesperson, due to low altitude and distance considerations, it is unlikely that Pakistanis can see Ramadan crescent on February 28, which suggests fasting will begin around March 2.

Therefore, the final call on moon sighting lies with them. As expected, Saudi Arabia expects the moon to become visible on February 28, allowing Ramadan to start on March 1.

SUPARCO expects the Shawwal moon to likely appear on March 30, 2025, signaling that Eid-ul-Fitr in Pakistan may fall on March 31.
