Why did WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram services face outage?

Responding to the abrupt outage of major social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp all over the world this morning. Facebook Vice-President of Infrastructure Santosh Janardhan said that modifications to the configuration of backbone routers that regulate. The flow of data between data centers created issues that disrupted communication.
In an article on his blog, Santosh Janardhan said, “This disruption to network traffic had a cascading effect on the way our data centers communicate, bringing our services to a halt.”
“We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by today’s outage across our platforms,” Janardhan said, noting that. They’ve been doing everything they can to get access back.

He stated that the systems are back operating. The root cause of this interruption also affected some of the internal systems and tools. However, We use in day-to-day activities, making it difficult to identify and solve the issue.
He said that the services are now operational and they are currently striving to return their normal operation. Janardhan stated that they believe the primary cause of the interruption was a malfunctioning configuration modification.
He added that they do not have any evidence to suggest that users’ data was compromised as due to the interruption in service.
“We apologize to all those affected, and we’re working to understand more about. Therefore, What happened today so we can continue to make our infrastructure more resilient,” Janardhan said.
